Careers in watersports and kitesurfing.
Have you ever dreamed of becoming a professional beach bum?
If you like the water, love being on the beach and want to turn your hobby in to your job, be it temporarily or long term, being a kiteboarding instructor can be very rewarding.
There are instructor kitesurfing courses running regularly in Camber Sands throughout the year.
Prerequisits - You need to do a first aid course and an RYA powerboat level 2 course. If you already kitesurf there is a minimum rider level that you must achieve to become an instructor. This involves being able to jump and do some basic tricks. If not you will be given instructions to improve your riding level. Sometimes we offer to train people up from complete beginners, this is subject to discussion and a work contract, comitting to a certain period teaching for Camber Kitesurfing. You also have to be good with people, alert and switched on. A friendly disposition goes a long way. Not every day is bright sunshine and perfect conditions, so it helps if you can lift your students' spirits by being upbeat and cracking a few jokes!
The BKSA course - the kitesurfing instructor training course is 5 days. It covers all aspects of teaching.
After the course - generally you will be given 'shadowing hours'. This is time spent with a qualified instructor or instructors, learning how to teach outside of the classroom, on the beach and in the water.
Finally- you are a level 1 BKSA kitesurfing instructor. The world is at your fingertips as you can get a job anywhere in the world. Travelling as a kitesurfing instructor is a great way to meet people and broaden your horizons.
Revailidation - is every 3 years, for the BKSA instructors it is a 1 day course, first aid is also every 3 years.
Career progression - you can do various courses to become a kitesurf coach and senior instructor, this means you can run a school. You can also progress within the BKSA to become a trainer (train up instructors) or work as part of the BKSA.
